In 2003 he meets the tenor saxophone Davide Marinacci with whom starts playing T.Monk , J.Coltrane music for many jazz clubs in the capital. The feeling between the two artists is so strong that they will be influencing each other for the next years. In 2004 he starts recording original jazz composition that will be collected in three CD “Inside” “Looking for way out” and “The Swing of Things” Since 2003, has been providing consultancy for RAI italian TV. Paolo Pavan Quartet is an ensemble founded in 2000 when I met saxophonist and friend David Marinacci , it was season for studying and performing historical jazz masterpieces which led us to set up our first quartet with Fabrizio Boccardelli and Marco Roccuzzo. This was such exciting experience that we came up with the idea of writing original compositions. Hence we realized the first self-produced cd “Inside” it didn’t draw the attention of Italian Jazz labels but we knew that it wasn’t that bad, so we seize the chance of publishing with Jamendo, a creative commons label that was just born. Since now the record has been downloaded in many country of the world and we have discovered there are people who appreciate our music and wrote heartstring reviews like this: “This is acoustic modern jazz – but its a modern form of “old school jazz”, reminding me sometimes of the early Miles Davis compositions. The slow tracks show a very sensitive approach to the musical material, the faster ones are strong and full of ideas.” The experience encouraged me and Davide in keep on writing music so in 2009 followed “Looking For A Way Out” and now, thanks to all my travel buddys, the last work “The Swing Of Things”, still good stylish jazz but with funk, pop, folk digression .I hope you all will enjoy it and join us in concert. Keep in touch!
